Drift Allstars Round 3 -Drift GP of Latvia promises to be one of the biggest events of the season. This is not only a drift event but the birthplace of professional drifting in the region with drivers and fans alike making the pilgrimage to the famous Bickernieki track.

This will probably be the fastest circuit of the season with over 150 km/hr being reached on entry.
The Bikernieki Race circuit is located just 10 minutes’ drive from Riga city centre which is the capital of Latvia. The hype has been building through the city the past few weeks for what is looking to be the biggest ever event in the region!

Janis Elgite, who took third in Sweden and is also Latvias most successfull drifter, had this to say about his home circuit

“Entry speed is on average 140km/hr but for the brave drivers it can go up to 160km/h. This track may seem simple but is quite technical high speed and has track surface changes towards the end.

You can drive all the track with full throttle.Entering turn 1 at the top of fourth gear you need to use an outside line to carry as much momentum as possible transition fast while staying on full throttle and wide rubbing the outside wall and entering the main track in front of the grandstand. Usually you can hear the fans screaming over the noise of the cars which is quite special.

Another fast transition in front of the crowd and taking the right line as there is a jump on exit of the last corner. This can be quite tricky as you are at full speed but dont want to lose your momentum with the car bottoming out or losing traction”

The drivers!Who to watch?

Off the back of Drift Allstars Sweden have a 3 way tussle for the championship lead between Finland, Ireland and Poland. Juha Rintanen leads the standings just like in 2012 at the same point as last year. He comes to Riga with the confidence of winning at this circuit before in previous events.
Dawid Karkosik comes back with a new setup in his S15 and loves the high speed circuits so can we see another surprise from the Budmat driver?

Nigel Colfer had a below par result in Sweden and to keep his championship hopes alive will need to bounce back with a strong result.
Note all drivers get to drop 1 score so it’s still all to play for.

Teenage Sensation Jack Shanahan will come of the confidence he has nearly taken down the last two event winners Juha and Bartosz Stolarski in RD1 with OMT’s at both events. Can he go one more step of the ladder and claim his first podium and get his championship chase back on track. He is fourth overall in the standings!

The Latvians-Hometown Heroes

Janis Eglite “Tandem Assasin” showed how competitive his package was at Sweden and is the clear home favourite. Can he get his first Drift Allstars win at home.

Kristaps Bluss couldn’t be a closer home driver with his workshop based at the track. His track knowledge will be invaluable and should be another favourite as he gets to grips with the new HGK Motorsport E46.

Gvido Elkinis is the most recent winner at the circuit taking out the recent EEDC win against formula drift driver Ryan Tuereck showing there is a huge depth of talent in the region. He also leads the EEDC championship.

The Polish

Besides Karkosik being in the championship chase Piotr Wiecek will be on a charge after having mechanical issues in Sweden.

Artek Opiela had another strong event in Sweden and will be looking to go up the standings. The Budmat Auto team will be backed up by 2012 PFD Polish champion Maciej Bochenek meaning we may see another driver on the top step. With the 2012 and 2011 Champion.

Pawel Trela may see a big polish following. Trela after more setup changes looks to be getting stronger event by event could this be his first podium event of the season under Nexen Tire Europe.

The Russians

Max and Felix from Maxxis Tires Russia will both be strong in Riga. This is their second home and more or less there home event. They will want a strong result after both going out in the top 32 in Sweden. With top drives in the Gatebil event and RDS championship in Russia can these guys get a top result after going out early in Sweden.

The Norwegians!

The Norwegians had a strong showing in RD 2 Sweden.Ola Jaeger leads the charge after his top 4 result in podium. This fast circuit will play into the hands of Jaeger,Halverson and Waargaard coming of the experience of the Gatebil events.

Waarguards amazing LS3 Powered RX7 always impressive driving from the young Norwegian driver. He had alot of small car issues in Sweden so lets see what he can do with more setup time.

Christer Halvorsen has to be one of the most exciting drivers to watch coming out of Scandinavia at the moment. He crazy aggressive style like has to be seen.

The Ukrainians!

Probably the biggest threats may come from the Ukraine ! Dmitriy Illyuk Kenda Tires /Monster Energy is the 2012 EEDC Champion and UDC 2012 champ. He has alot of experience at the Riga circuit coming 2nd here last year at an EEDC event.

Alex Golovnya is another top driver and actually qualified first at Drift Allstars/EEDC Hungary in 2012. The Zeetex tires driver is known for his maximum attack style all or nothing and is another one who could take the win.
