Drift Allstars: Grand Prix of Greece, Iraklion Port Crete.
Today began the practice for the first leg of Allstars GP of Greece, the sun splitting the sky on the exotic Island of Crete made a perfect environment for the drivers to test with long bends and the fast yet also technical course laid out here in the large port of Iraklion.
With the Drift Allstars European final in Malta only 2 weeks previous, the battle scars on some of the cars from the championship was just a reflection of how hard some of the drivers pushed themselves and the cars during the series.
For this Exhibition event we had the pleasure of having the legendary Paul Vlasbom in the E36 Touring. From his first run he was consistant as ever in the same car used in 2008 at the Red Bull World Drift Championships in Long Beach qualifying 2nd over all.
Martin Richards in the Altenzo Tire/Aerokit.eu Toyota Soarer was flying after a fresh remap since the Finals in Malta. The car seems a lot more responsive and Martin defonitly found his comfort zone.
One of the Top Cyprus drivers Christoforou in his M3 Powered BMW E30 was showing great form and angle throughout the day and unfortunately Karampakikis had some engine trouble in the RB26 powered S13.5, hopefully the local Crete driver will be back in the game for qualifying tomorrow!
Nigel Colfer in the Marangoni Tire 1JZ Nissan S13 was defonitly the clear top driver in practice, line speed and angle all came on very fast in the lightweight S-Body. The car was right at home and the driver, showing experience and the level of skill from the Vice-European Champion.
Pete Barber in the Aerokit Nissan Skyline R33 had some shock absorber and brake issues from the last event in Malta, but after spending the morning making repairs, Pete was in his element on this fast track and seemed to progress very fast as the evening went on.
Andonio in the Maxspec Toyota Starlet KP61 was surprisingly fast in the 800KG car but seems to be struggling in a high horsepower suited track, the Greek championship leader will need to push hard to qualify high.
Charalampos Monster Energy RB30 Powered Nissan 180SX S13 was getting to grips with the clipping points and had a minor impact at the fastest point of the track, luckily the damages where only cosmetic and repaired quickly meaning the Cypriot was smoking up the arena for the remainder of the day.
Updates tomorrow here and also on here for the Qualifying and top 32 Battles!
